CHALFONT Softball Club was named Club of the Year at the Bucks Awards on Friday, after making the shortlist last year.

However, they have gone from strength to strength since then and now boasts two of the top five teams in the Windsor and Maidenhead Softball League while in August they won BSF Gold National Championship title.

Its third team are also division two champions while the club has branched out into the community, running after-school clubs and signing up more than 20 players for its new junior section.

Development officer Neil Turner said: “It’s absolutely fantastic. We’re honoured that our club has been recognised is this way.

“Our sport is not as mainstream as some, so it’s great to have our work rewarded.”

But the club aren’t wasting time patting themselves on the back.

Turner said: “We’re running indoor softball for junior and new adult players from January.

“We have our national title to defend along with the challenge of regaining the Windsor League title and starting a new development team.”
