Rams hit six to lower the Bar

Boss Gary Meakin has been fighting fires all season but at last it was his team raising the temperature as they finally added the goals their performances have demanded.

They overpowered Potters Bar 6-2 and Meakin thinks it’s about time.

He said: “We’ve been showing for weeks that we’re good enough, we just haven’t been clinical enough.

“Now we’re starting to score goals too and I’m pleased. We’re getting there now.”

Zak Joseph opened the scoring after 30 minutes, but the real fireworks came in the final 20 minutes with a further seven goals coming.

Potters Bar scored two of them after 82 minutes, but the game had gone beyond them by then with Rams adding to their tally after 68, 70, 83, 88 and 90 minutes.

Joseph went on to score a hat-trick with Tom O’Regan, Kofi Lockhart-Adams and Ryan Phillips also on target.

Meakin said: “We could have had plenty more goals. The game could have been over long before it was but because we hadn’t put the chances away Potter Bar always thought they were in it.

“But once we got the second goal they crumbled.”

The result lifted Beaconsfield back into the top ten, and Meakin hopes that a second half of stability will continue the climb.

He said: “I’m happy with my squad now. We might be minus a centre half, but we’ve got two very good centre halves and it’s hard to find a third very good one who will be happy to be in and out.

“It might actually be a case of releasing a few because I can’t keep everybody happy.

“I’ve got 24 here, so a couple might have to go.

“Now it’s about getting our heads down and playing catch up. If we win our game in hand we’re only four points off the play-offs and we’re not even half-way through the season yet.

“From the outside it looks like a lot of changes, but we’ve had the same back four for four of the last five games.

“We’ve got a settled team, a settled squad and really good team spirit now.”
