WASPS boss Dai Young admitted that losing to Northampton was worse than their opening day defeat to Harlequins.

Both games came down to the final kick of the match, but while Andy Goode's conversion hit an upright at Twickenham, Stephen Myler's penalty was unerring to seal Saints' 17-15 win at Adams Park.

Young said: "This one is a little bit harder to take. We’re coming to the business end of the season and this part of the season over Christmas is hugely important."

Sport is full of ifs and buts, but had Wasps won both those matches they'd be fourth in the table now.

Young said: "If you can get victories against the top four teams, they’re almost like bonus wins because nobody expected us to win.

"But we had confidence we could get this result if we played to our best and I thought we were really good. I don’t think the players have got what they deserved.”
