Beaconsfield storm into play-off mix
1:39pm Tuesday 14th January 2014 in Sport
BEACONSFIELD SYCOB stretched their unbeaten run in the Southern League Central Division to 76 days with two more wins this week.
They are now up to fifth in the table, crammed in the middle of a six-team group separated by just three points.
However, six wins on the spin for Gary Meakin’s side means they are the form team and the manager is cautiously optimistic.
He said: There are three mini tables and can we finish fifth out of eight? We’re in there now, but we need to be in there on the last day of the season.
“What we can achieve is up to them.”
Rams continued their fine form with a 2-0 victory over Ashford on Saturday before following up with a 3-2 triumph over North Greenford United on Monday night.
Zak Joseph scored twice in the weekend win and although Rams were well below par 72 hours later, they did just enough to edge past struggling North Greenford.
The visitors actually went ahead early on and might have increased their lead in an opening 45 minutes that Beaconsfield will want to wipe out of their memory banks in a hurry.
But a half-time dressing down from Meakin restored order and three goals in little more than 15 minutes proved decisive.
A brace from Jack Hutchinson either side of a Jon-Jo Bates goal did the damage, putting them out of Greenford’s reach before their late consolation.
Meakin said: “We played really badly but have come away with the three points and that’s all I asked for.
“We’ve been so good and to get on the run we’ve been on, if we’d have let ourselves down we’d have been gutted.”
Beaconsfield go to third-placed Royston on Saturday before a Bucks Cup Final against Wycombe Wanderers.
Meakin said: “It’s a shame they’ve changed the game. It was meant to be at their place but apparently they couldn’t fit the fixture in.
“The boys are all gutted but hopefully they’ll give us a pre-season friendly.
“But I’m not even thinking about Wanderers at the moment. If we win the game, great, if we lose the game then I’m not too bothered.
“Royston is the one we want.”
