Matt Craggs powers over

AMERSHAM & Chiltern RFC left behind a month of indifferent form to register one of their results of the season in National League 3 South West.

They beat fourth-placed Brixham 36-27 to draw a line under a run of four losses in their last five games.

They didn’t start brilliantly, missing two kickable penalties before conceding the first try to trail 7-0.

The visitors crossed again shortly afterwards and with 15 minutes gone, Amersham were reeling at 12-0 down.

Jack Kenyon finally found his range off the tee to make it 12-3, and Amersham were right back in it when Chris Jack’s break sent Sam Portland over.

Kenyon converted from out wide and the momentum shift was complete before the interval, when Dave Skelton touched down after his own charge down.

That made it 17-15 at the break, and Amersham went further clear with a second try from a charge down.

Tom Shiel claimed this one, and the defining moment came shortly afterwards.

Leading 24-15 but penned for a long spell in their own 22, Amersham suddenly broke out through winger James Carty before Matt Craggs went over for the match-winning score.

The conversion made it 31-15, and although Brixham finished strongly another Amersham try through Stuart Day confirmed the victory.
