HIGH Wycombe Hockey Club U16s fell one hurdle short of becoming national champions last week.

They were competing in the National Indoor Finals at Whitgift but were beaten in the semi-finals.

They were beaten 2-0 by eventual winners Old Loughtonians in their first pool match, but rallied to beat Lichfield Girls 4-2 thanks to Ellie Wheeler (2), Rosie Campion and Anna Henderson) and then saw off Isca Girls 4-1 with Wheeler, Abby Wagge and Beth Wagge (2) netting.

Rosie Campion and Caroline Spence scored in a 2-1 win over Lichfield Girls that secured their semi-final spot, but Beeston Girls ended their run with a 4-2 victory despite a brace from Wheeler.

Meanwhile, the U18s were also at the national finals but they weren’t able to progress out of their group despite goals from Emma Postings (4), Vicky Fallan (2) and Ollie Hamilton (2).
