BEACONSFIELD SYCOB’s superb winter form has continued with two fine wins in a row.
Beating Wycombe Wanderers in the semi-final of the County Cup last week was the first step, but manger Gary Meakin says it’s league games that matter more and his team delivered for him on that front as well with a 1-0 victory at promotion rivals Daventry.
Jordan Ajanlekoko scored the goal that mattered after 13 minutes, although it was nearly scratched out an hour later.
Meakin said: “The ref asked us if we wanted to continue after about 65 minutes.
“The conditions were horrendous and we’d never have started the game the way we finished, but the ball was still rolling.”
The game continued and Rams’ win made it 15 games in a row without defeat and leaves them fifth in the Southern League Central division.
They can make further progress on Saturday at the expense of second-placed Rugby Town, who have won nine of their 12 home games.
Meakin said: “They were my tip to win the league and I’m not changing that, but we’re on a good run and are capable of winning there.”
