WASPS can strike a psychological blow on Gloucester when they meet in the LV=Cup tomorrow.

Neither side will be anything like full strength, but Wasps hold an Indian sign over the Cherry and Whites and another victory tomorrow would continue that trend and set them up perfectly for the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final later in the season.

Winger Josh Bassett said: “The crucial thing for us going into this LV=Cup period was to maintain the momentum we have behind us at the moment.

“We have had some great wins in the league and earning a home quarter-final in Europe is brilliant but you don’t want to ease off.

“Although we didn’t necessarily have the opportunity to qualify for the knockout stages of this competition, we want to take the momentum into the league when we go back into it.

“We know that Gloucester have lost a few players with England and the Saxons but we know who they are bringing in and they are quality players.

“But we are all very ambitious, both personally and as a team, and when chances come we want to take them. We’re looking at the guys who put their hands up last weekend to do the same this week, with some other guys maybe coming into the squad.

“We are focussed on getting a victory to set ourselves up well heading back into the Premiership.”

Coach Brad Davis said: “It wasn’t perfect last week and we’ll look to build on that at Kingsholm, which will be another tough challenge for this group of players.”
