WYCOMBE Boxing Club has two chances of national glory with Ben Smith and Joseph Molloy both fighting quarter-final bouts in Aylesbury on Sunday.

Smith became the first boxer from the club to win a national title in 2012 and has since been identified as a potential GB Olympian.

However, he’s not the only star at the club with national designs after Joseph Molloy, who joined in December, threw his hat in the ring in the U56kg category by winning the Home Counties title yesterday.

The 16-year-old beat Tommy Conners of Windrush Valley by unanimous points to book his place in the national quarter-finals.

Coach John MacInnes said: “Joe is an exciting addition to our squad and has fitted in very well at our club.

“He works very hard under the tutelage of his father and new coach at the club James Molloy, and has been sparing a lot with Ben Smith, which has benefited both lads in their preparation for this year’s championships.”
