WASPS insist their heavy LV=Cup defeat to Gloucester last weekend will have no bearing on the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final between the two sides in early April.

Ashley Johnson’s try was Wasps only high point in their 36-5 defeat last weekend.

However, Wasps director of rugby Dai Young was quick to dismiss any psychological gains for the Cherry and Whites.

He said: “They probably needed it more than we did. Yes, they won but what I take from it is I don’t think we can play that badly again.

“We’ve got a lot of players to come back into our team and they haven’t got that many.

“It’s going to be close because there’s not much between most of the teams in the Premiership, but we know we’re better than we played at the weekend and we know we can cause them problems.”
