THE Great Britain women’s hockey team will return to Pound Lane next month for a rematch with the Marlow HC men’s first team.

GB faced Marlow in November as they geared up for the World Cup, but after losing 4-1 are coming back to Pound Lane with revenge on their minds.

The match pushes back at 7.45pm on Monday, March 10.

Chairman Keith Packer said: “It’s only a friendly but they’re out for revenge.

“The score wasn’t really important last time, they had a big squad and were rolling on subs.

“But they’re preparing for a World Cup now and are taking this one seriously.

“They’re bringing a top 16 and Jason [Lee, GB coach] is certainly very keen on revenge.”

It’s understood GB will play a few other amateur sides in the area as well during their World Cup preparations.

But the game with Marlow will have extra spice.

Packer said: “Jason plays for us from time to time and his wife plays for the women’s first team so we’ve got a good link there.

“And also they’re right next door to us.”

Meanwhile, the men didn’t enjoy the perfect build-up with a 7-0 thrashing at Banbury last weekend.

Marlow 2s made up for that with a 5-0 victory over Gerrards Cross, while Marlow 3s were 3-0 winners at Sonning 4s and Marlow 4s overpowered Wycombe 4s 5-2.
