STUART Lewis played through the pain barrier for Wanderers before succumbing to a hamstring injury last week.

The Wanderers captain had been playing despite the injury, before it became too much and he was forced to miss the games at Exeter and Southend.

Blues boss Gareth Ainsworth said Lewis is back in contention to face Hartlepool on Saturday after resting up.

He said: "He was playing through the injury for us because he wanted to turn things round for us. He feels as responsible as anyone this season.

"He’s battled through some tightness in his hamstring and we’re letting him get over that and recover that. He’ll say he’s fit – if he had a broken leg and I asked him to play, he would play for me because that’s the kind of character he is.

"We have to be sensible with him and the physio has the final say whether he’s fit or not. He’s a big asset when he’s in midfield and does a lot of the leg work."
