NOT for the first time a last-minute penalty cost Amersham & Chiltern as they went down to Newton Abbot in National League 3 South West.
They lost 35-32 despite battling back from 32-22 down in the closing stages.
Tries from Dave Skelton, Tim Lloyd and Dave John had put them 17-7 ahead just before the interval.
The hosts levelled it and the match was nip and tuck after that with Danny Samuels and Tom Shiel going over for Amersham in the second period.
But a penalty minutes from time consigned them to defeat.
Meanwhile, Marlow drew 17-17 with Maidenhead in South West 2 East and Beaconsfield were beaten 31-9 by Old Priorians in London 2 North West.
