LOOKING for a new loan midfielder has dropped down Gareth Ainsworth’s list of priorities with skipper Stuart Lewis looking likely to feature at York on Saturday.

A hamstring injury has ruled the combative midfielder out of the last four games, and with Josh Scowen having to serve a two game ban this week Ainsworth hinted he could swoop to bring in reinforcements.

He’s been rebuffed in his efforts to bring in a new face, but with Lewis now on the comeback trail Ainsworth said dipping into the transfer market is not as high up his priority list as it was.

Joint top scorer Matt McClure picked up an ankle injury in midweek but it’s not thought to be too serious.

Ainsworth said: “I’m always looking. Finances are tight and we have to be governed by that and the players we’ve had eyes on, the situation has changed with those players. Some have got back in the team, one’s got injured – it’s not like playing Football Manager on the computer. You do have a lot of outside influences and variables that change.

“I’m still looking but with the boost of Stuart and Matt McClure’s injury not being as serious as first thought, we’ll still be strong.

“It’s 70/30 in Stuart’s favour. Stu’s been a big player for us this season and we weren’t going to risk his hamstring.

“We’ll have a look at him and see if he could potentially come into the team.”

Scowen is still missing as he sits out the second and final match of his ban and it’s bad news for forward Paris Cowan-Hall, who Ainsworth believes will be out for up to a month with ankle ligament damage.

X-Rays showed the five goal forward hadn’t broken anything but further scans revealed the full extent of the injury.

Ainsworth said: "Paris is at least four weeks at the moment. We won't be seeing him until the last month of the season, so that's a big blow to us as well."

The Blues boss also revealed midfielder Matt Spring has been missing through injury in recent weeks.

He said: “Matt’s not been training for two weeks because he’s had a groin strain. That’s the reason he’s not been around. Springy will be back training as well.”
