CHESHAM United were within moments of cutting Hemel Hempstead's lead at the top of the Southern Premier League to four points.
They did their part by winning 2-1 at promotion rivals Cambridge City, their tenth win in 11 games, thanks to goals from James Potten and Chris Dillon.
Meanwhile, Hemel were being held to a 2-2 draw at Arlesey until snatching the winner two minutes into injury time.
Neither side have games this week, with Chesham back in action against Chippenham on Saturday and Hemel at Poole.
