Injuries could see forward line changed again

Bucks Free Press: Steven Craig Steven Craig

HAMSTRING injuries could rule strikers Matt McClure and Steven Craig out of Saturday's game with Rochdale - leaving Blues boss Gareth Ainsworth with the prospect of having to change his forward line yet again.

It's been nine matches since Ainsworth has been able to name a settled two-man attack and he admitted that lack of continuity could have played a part in his side's lack of goals this season.

McClure and Craig were given the nod at Cheltenham on Tuesday for their ability to hold the ball up and relieve the expected pressure on the Wanderers back four.

But neither of them managed to last the full 90 minutes and came off carrying slight hamstring strains.

And Ainsworth said: "To keep a solid formation and a consistent team is good. We've gone on good runs when we've done that.

"It doesn't always work that way. We've had men sent off, men coming off, suspensions, injuries and illness. That's where my job comes into it, picking the right team, formation and personnel for the job.

"It's been difficult because we haven't had a two that have stayed consistently together and scored a lot of goals. Dean Morgan's top scorer, Paris [Cowan-Hall] and Jo Kuffour were scoring and playing well earlier in the season, Matt McClure came through in the middle of the season.

"In my mind I think I know who I'd prefer if everyone was 100 per cent fit, but I'll keep that to myself and we'll see if we can get the strikers scoring. If they score they stay in the team."

He said of McClure and Craig's injury concerns: "They are both hamstrings, which is a red flag and we have to see if there's any reason for it.

"They are both not long terms - they could potentially be involved on Saturday, which is great. If not, it'll be very soon after. We are not looking at five or six weeks like Paris."

Midfielder Matt Bloomfield also came off injured against Cheltenham but Ainsworth said the fans' favourite should be good to go against Rochdale.

Stuart Lewis could also feature after joining in with training at the end of last week after recovering from injury, only to be struck down by illness before last Saturday's trip to York.

Ainsworth would have changed the team anyway it's what he does and that's why we're looking at possible relegation plus his substitutions are just mad,
