GARETH Ainsworth’s attempt to bring in a new face ahead of the closure of the loan window was his hardest-ever task as a manager – and it’s likely to get him into trouble with his mum.

The Blues boss burned the midnight oil during the week hoping to secure a new signing to bolster his defensive options, with Gary Doherty out long term and Leon Johnson and Anthony Stewart both carrying hamstring strains.

With just ten minutes to go until the deadline he completed the deal to bring 18-year-old Rotherham defender Danny Rowe to Adams Park until the end of the season.

But he said: “I haven’t had a minute spare. I forgot to send my mum a Mother’s Day card, which is going to get me in trouble, but I’m sure she will be OK with the point. I might have to give her a ring and a long chat on the phone instead of a card.

“Wednesday and Thursday were two of the craziest days I’ve had in management so far. Thank goodness for the internet. Goodness knows how managers used to do it over the telephone. On the internet you can pick things out and get information on people.

“It was a busy one. The family took a bit of a back seat but they’ll be as pleased as anyone today. It was all worthwhile.”
