DAI Young has urged his players to use the final weeks of the season to nail down a place in England’s summer touring party to New Zealand.

England coach Stuart Lancaster is likely to take a large squad to face the All Blacks, just over a year out from the start of the World Cup.

And Young believes the more high-profile games Wasps play in the more chance his players have of catching the selectors’ eyes.

He said: “It’s great for us as a team to be in with a shout for seventh, but it’s important as well for individuals to perhaps stake a claim for England.

“I’m sure Stuart is going to take an extended squad to New Zealand and if we’re in there pushing for that seventh spot it’s only going to put boys more in the spotlight.”

James Haskell is one player who has substantially raised his level in the past month or so, and twice he has completely outshone Gloucester’s England pair, Ben Morgan and Matt Kvesic.

Young said: “It’s not for me to talk about other players but we’ve played twice against Gloucester now and I thought our back row totally outplayed their back row on both occasions.”
