WANDERERS have cancelled their end of season awards dinner - with the club saying it was forced into making an official announcement earlier than planned because of "a statement released by an over-exuberant Trust director".

The event was scheduled to take place on Sunday but the club has decided to postpone it at least for the time being.

The news was first announced on the Wycombe Wanderers Trust website yesterday, with a statement saying refunds would be arranged for fans who had already paid.

But the club said it had wanted to contact supporters who had bought a ticket for the event before making an announcement.

A statement on the club's official website read: "The decision has been made to cancel the club’s end of season dinner on Sunday, May 4, with a view to possibly re-scheduling at a later date.

"Wanderers have been contacted by a number of fans over the past few days who would miss the event because of staying over in Torquay after the final game of the season this weekend.

"It was decided earlier today [Monday] that the dinner would therefore be postponed for at least the time being to allow as many supporters as possible to attend.

"The club wanted to contact every person who had bought a ticket before releasing a statement, but this has since been made impossible by a statement released by an over-exuberant Trust director.

"Fans who have already bought their tickets will be contacted by the club and given a full refund, but if for some reason you aren’t called within the next day then please phone Becci Redmond on 01494 455706."
