Ainsworth: This club needs investment
GARETH Ainsworth said Wanderers' squad is good enough to be higher up the league - but said without investment the club won't challenge at the top.
Despite the club’s poor form scouts have been regular visitors to Adams Park this season to chart the progress of the club's younger players, with Charles Dunne being snapped up by Blackpool, Kortney Hause moving to Wolves and Josh Scowen turning down a deadline day move away from the club.
Ainsworth said it was down to a lack of goals that Blues were struggling at the foot of the table - but it could be a different tale if there was more money available to him.
A long-mooted takeover deal is still being dragged out and Ainsworth said: "We need investment in the club, in my opinion. Money plays a big part in football. It's well documented we've struggled for it.
"Having said that, we haven't been good enough in front of goal. It's not all down to that - we need to score more goals. We've had some mistakes, we've had some poor performances, we haven't been great in front of goal."
But he added: "We are not in a position where we deserve to be. I'm a proud man and I believe we could be higher.
"One result, one win and we'd be sitting differently and saying 'We've been up against it on and off the pitch but we are OK'. We can still do that on Saturday."
