RGS HIGH Wycombe schoolboy Saif Zaib made his first class debut aged just 15 this week.

The High Wycombe CC protege , inset, played for Northants against Durham and the bowling all-rounder looked at home in such esteemed company.

He made 19 in his first innings as Northants chased quick runs to declare on 318-7, and a solid 54 not out out in his second innings steered Northants to safety after they fell to 54-4 in their second innings.

Zaib was given permission to miss school to play in the game, which continued a busy week of firsts after he’d made his competitive debut for Bucks on Sunday.

He played in their Unicorns Trophy group match against Herefordshire, but although he took a wicket he couldn’t prevent his county falling to a heavy defeat.

Herefordshire made 259 in 49.5 overs, with Chesham off-spinner Matt Rance taking four wickets for 58 after coming in for early punishment.

But the hosts never got to grips with the slow pitch and tight Herefordshire bowling and were skittled out for just 113 in 38.1 overs in their reply.

Bucks play Oxfordshire on Sunday.
