BLUES boss Gareth Ainsworth believes a number of League Two teams will suffer financial hardship this season.

Ainsworth's transfer budget last year was one of the lowest in the division and he recently said Wanderers are in need of investment.

But he said his club won't be the only ones looking round for extra funds.

He said: "We are going to see a lot of teams struggle. It's well documented we've struggled but there will be other teams as well, it won't just be us. There will be a few teams struggling financially this year in the lower leagues.

"Clubs can get carried away with signing a lot of players. Smaller clubs with smaller finances have got to be careful."

Ainsworth said part of the problem was the rule Football League clubs can name up to seven substitutes on a matchday.

On occasions last season the Blues boss had to name himself among the replacements, despite officially hanging up his boots a year ago.

He said: "Having seven substitutes in League Two sometimes stretches the finances of League Two teams. There's nothing wrong with the five subs they had in the old days."
