A MARLOW teenager has laid down an early marker by finishing second at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games sailing venue.

Fifteen-year-old Jordan Giles was invited to compete in the three-day International Friendship Regatta and five seconds and a first in his six races was good enough for second overall against sailors from New Zealand, Europe and Asia.

Dad Simon said: “It was fantastic, it was really pleasing for his first international event and I think he’s learned a massive amount.

”All this helps build up his level of confidence and every event he goes to now he learns something new. He has made amazingly quick progress."

Giles returned to the UK in time to finish second in the National Schools Sailing Championships last weekend, when he won three of his six races, finishing second in the rest.

That was an identical record as the winner, but Giles missed out on a countback.
