WANDERERS say they are confident they have no case to answer, in the face of threatened legal action from Bristol Rovers.

The Pirates announced today they planned to contest the Football Association's decision not to deduct points from Wanderers in the wake of breaches of transfer regulations when Matt Phillips was sold to Blackpool four years ago.

They claim the transfer handed Blues an unfair advantage last season.

The FA slapped Blues with a £10,000 fine, but Rovers said this afternoon Wanderers should have been docked points instead.

Had that happened, the Gas would have survived relegation from the Football League at Wycombe's expense.

In a brief statement issued this evening to counter Rovers' claims Wanderers said: "We will, as always, fully cooperate with the Football League and the Football Association in any investigation into this matter, but we are fully confident that there is no case to answer.

"There will be no further comment from the club at this stage."
