Amersham make hay while the sun shines

AMERSHAM were 3-2 and 6-3 before rallying to beat Shipton Under Wynchwood last Saturday and register their first victory of the Home Counties season.

Hugh Jackson, Stephano Joubert and Christoper Cann were dismissed for 0, 1 and 2 respectively to leave Amersham staring down the barrel, but Bruce Friderichs withstood the early bombardment with a stolid 28.

He was joined in the middle by Andrew Viney and the pair sparked a mini recovery by taking the score to 38 before Friderichs was bowled by Shaun Miller.

Edward Bowcock came and went in the blink of an eye as Amersham tottered on 44-5, but Paul Langley (45) and Viney added 89 for the sixth wicket before a belligerent 30 from captain Luke Jackson further down the order dragged their score up to 198-9 from their 50 overs.

That was competitive but not quite convincing, and Amersham looked like subsiding as Shipton reached 35-1 and then 80-2.

However, Amersham’s attack kept the lid on Shipton and fine bowling from Luke Jackson (2-29), Alexander Lines (2-37) and Stephano Joubert (3-28) secured a 29-run victory ahead of Saturday’s visit from Falkland.

Meanwhile, Amersham 2s, 3s and 4s also won to complete a cleansweep last weekend.

The second team made it two wins from two in Division 4a of the Thames Valley League thanks to an 80-run win over Hillingdon Manor.

Roy Danstan starred with bat and ball, taking 6-32 in Hillingdon’s 124 after scoring 39 not out in Amersham’s score of 204 (Dan Colquhoun, 67).

Meanwhile, Amersham 3s beat OMT 2’s by 30 runs after scoring 172 batting first.

Nick Nguyen hit an aggressive 55 to set up their Thames Valley League Division Six win.

Completing the set, Amersham 4s chased down 204 against Boyne Hill to claim victory. Imran Ishaq was the star of the show with 106 not out.
