NEWLY-promoted Chesham CC were hoping for a fast start to settle Home County nerves, but after a victory on the opening day their season has been stuck on pause.

Two defeats either side of a cancelled game at Amersham have seen Ollie Turner’s young team slide down the Division Two table, turning up the pressure before tomorrow’s trip to Cove.

Turner said: “It’s been a bit stop, start. We won our opening game but it’s been very inconsistent since then.

“We’re playing well in patches, but we haven’t found the consistency that I said at the start of the season would be so important.”

Despite that, Turner insists there is no table pressure creeping in just yet.

He said: “It would be good to get a win, but we understand it’s been similar for a lot of teams. A lot of teams are still stuck on one win and I’m sure once we got another one we’ll find our form.”

Batting has been the missing link so far, They were all for 172 on their own track against Reading a fortnight ago and then managed just seven runs more trying to chase down Finchampstead’s 253-7 last weekend.

Turner said: “Generally speaking we’ve bowled and fielded pretty well, although we probably let Finchampstead get about 30 too many last week.

“But our batting has been the problem and we just need some time in the middle. I know they’re good enough.

“It was similar last year. We took a bit of time to find our form but once we did we were fine.”
