AMERSHAM Swimminng Club left everyone else in their wake as they won a dramatic final relay to take victory in their own Novice Gala.

Maidenhead Marlins, SeaByrds, Harrow, Tring and Henley all took part in the 37-event meet for swimmers aged eight, nine and ten, and Amersham led by just a point with two races to go.

But the boys U11’s won their freestyle relay before Amersham wrapped up the victory in the squadron relay, which includes a girl and boy from each age group completing 25m crawl.

Evie Brown and James Elliott gave them a good start before Jasmin Van Rest and Alexander Bainbridge increased our lead.

Alice Crowstone and Dylan Woolven then brought the team home to wrap up an overall eight-point win.

Earlier, Hannah Ashby was the club’s first winner in the girl’s U9s freestyle, before Tristan Woolven, Alexander Bainbridge, Alice Crowstone, Brown, Dylan Woolven and Emily Roycroft also touched the wall first.

Van Rest then won twice to leave Amersham third at the half-way stage but only three points off the lead.

A strong finish turned the tide though, as Amersham pipped Maidenhead and Seabyrds to their first victory in more than four years.
