RON Hedley celebrated 40 years as an Amersham Hill cricketer last weekend when he batted for two hours to earn his team a draw against Littlewick Green.
Hedley, who made his debut on June 8 1974, fought a desperate rearguard action after Hill 2s slumped to 41-8 in reply to Green’s 177.
But Hedley’s innings saw Hill home on 92-9.
Hedley then captained a side made up of ex-players against Amersham Hill firsts and came out to bat with former captain Steve Sheppard chasing a score of 315-3.
But while he shared a 140-run stand with Russell Owens, it wasn’t enough as his select XI were all out for 261.
