PIPPA Woolven will run for England at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next month.

The Wycombe Phoenix Harrier will wear her country’s colours in the 3,000m steeplechase alongside Rachel Bamford.

Woolven, who turns 21 just a week before the Games start on July 23, has spent the past year in America on an athletics scholarship at Florida State University.

She will return to Bucks in great form having just helped her university to a triple crown of cross country, indoor and outdoor athletics titles.

This year she has also set a new personal best of 9:54 in the 3,000m steeplechase, while her indoor form has seen set new bests in the 5,000m, 3,000m and the mile.

Before transferring to America from the University of Birmingham last summer she became the first athlete to win gold at the Olympic Stadium when she won the BUCS 2,000m steeplechase title in London in 2012 and ran for Great Britain in Belgium and Spain.

She joins a 129-strong England squad heading to Scotland that also includes Mo Farah, Greg Rutherford, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Christine Ohuruogu.

England athletics team leader Peter Stanley said: “We are delighted to be taking a team to Glasgow that contains a combination of experienced athletes who have medalled at the highest levels of competition and athletes we believe are ready to make their mark at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

“Seeing the form already shown this summer by athletes in the squad has been tremendous and I look forward to seeing the athletes seizing the opportunities that the Games will bring.”
