A SCHOOL in Bucks has just been named one of the top three independent schools in the country for sport at a plush ceremony in Warwickshire.

St Teresa’s School in Princes Risborough were shortlisted for the Award in Sporting Excellence after a stunning year of achievements.

They won district, county, regional and national titles in football, cross-country and athletics to enhance their stature as one of England’s top schools for sporting excellence.

Meanwhile, their athletes lived up to their reputations at the ISA National Athletics Championships in Birmingham with five gold and two bronze medals.

Eleven pupils were selected to represent North London and they didn’t disappoint.

Kitty Conroy secured St Teresa’s first medal of the day as she came home third in the 80m before Nicholas Cay emulated her with another podium finish in the boys 600m.

Then it was over to Pia Crowley and to steal the show in 600m.

Crowley lined up as defending champion but shrugged off the pressure on her shoulders with a startling run to come home in a new best time, six seconds clear of her nearest rival.

Just an hour later Crowley joined Kitty Conroy, Lucy Rose and Hatty Bell in the year six girls relay team to storm to another gold in the 4x75m.

Crowley ran a dominant first leg, before Conroy, Rose and Bell brought the baton round in 44.1 seconds.

Coach Dean Stenning said: “The girls are proof that hard work and determination can help you achieve anything.

“Ever since their national cross country success at Princethorpe College in March, the girls have been focused on achieving National Athletics success too.

“Their dedication to training, willingness to compete and their all round attitude towards sport is exceptional.

“Although many sensational athletes will be moving on to secondary schools in September, I know they will all continue to shine within the world of sport, having inspired the next generation at St Teresa’s School.”

St Teresa’s School will aim to conclude a stunning year of sporting achievements on Sunday when they compete at the National Prep Schools Athletics Championships in St Albans.

The team is: Nicholas Cay, William Conroy, Phoebe Good, Sophie Hutchinson, Simone Collins, Grace Holt, Fergus Burnett, Pia Crowley, Kitty Conroy, Lucy Rose and Hatty Bell.
