A SURVEY has revealed that more adults in Bucks play sport every week than anywhere else in the country.

Sport England’s Active People Survey has found that 41 per cent of people over the age of 16 in the county are involved in sport on a weekly basis, an increase of four per cent on last year.

These figures place Bucks first in a regional table of sports participation in the country, more than five per cent higher than the national average.

Roger Fennemore, chairman of the Bucks & MK Sport and Activity Partnership, Leap, said: “This is a positive increase for both Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.

“We are very pleased with this result as it takes us a step closer to meeting our target of helping 50,000 people benefit from sport and activity.”

However, 41 per cent means less than half of adults in Bucks do the recommended amount of physical activity each week.

Femmemore said: “There is still more investment required to reduce the cost of inactivity and have a sustained improvement to the health of Bucks & Milton Keynes residents.

“We need to recognise and reward the people who make sport flourish in the county.

“If you know someone who plays an invaluable role in organising sport or physical activity sessions, running a local club or turning out year on year to open the gates and score a match, then nominate them for a prestigious award at this year's Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Sport Awards, nominations open 7th July.”
