THE table doesn’t make fantastic viewing for Beaconsfield CC, but captain Chris Thomas insists they can turn it upside down with a string of wins.

With no wins, one draw and three losses from six Thames Valley League Division One games, Beaconsfield are fourth from bottom.

However, they’ve been on the brink more than once already this summer and Thomas is confident that their breakthrough result is just around the corner.

He said: “We’ve got closer in the last few weeks and it’s way too early to be thinking about table pressure.

“We are competing against everyone and I’m sure when we win one we’ll go and win four or five. Historically Beaconsfield have always done that. We’re 45 points off first and with 12 games to go that is nothing. We’d be in the top two if we won two or three games.”

Their score of 207-6 against Kew last weekend gave them a look in, but for once it was their bowlers who took their eye off the ball, allowing the visitors to rattle off the required runs with eight wickets in hand.

The previous weekend they had four overs at Yately’s last pair but couldn’t quite get over the line.

Thomas, who scored 68 on Saturday, said: “We batted well last week but didn’t bowl well and it’s just a case of putting the two together.

“Against Yately we had we chances of getting the last wicket. We had a few lbw shouts, one went through the slips...

“It would be more frustrating if I didn’t think we had the quality or if we didn’t have chances of winning.”

Tomorrow they host Eversley.
