Murphy: I turned down League One move to join Blues
NEW signing Peter Murphy said he turned down a move into League One to sign for Wanderers after being made to feel wanted by the club.
The 24-year-old midfielder will officially join Blues on July 1 after agreeing to make the move south from Accrington Stanley.
He'd been at the Lancashire side for eight years and said he made the move to Adams Park looking to get his teeth into a new challenge.
Murphy told the Bucks Free Press: "I heard from my agent Wycombe were interested in me so I came down and had a chat with Gareth Ainsworth.
"I had a few options from quite a few clubs, some from League One, but I just felt wanted by Wycombe. Gareth Ainsworth and [director] David Roberton made me feel wanted, I was impressed by the training ground and where they want to go.
"I'd been at Accrington since the age of 16. I felt like I needed a new challenge and I was impressed by Wycombe."
Last season was the Liverpudlian's best-ever season in front of goal, as he netted nine times to finish as Stanley's top goalscorer and double his total tally.
Over the course of 176 appearances for Accrington he scored a total of 18 goals - and last season's goal glut has given him the appetite to go on and get even more.
Murphy has also played in defence but said: "Last season I played centre midfield and I feel it's my new preferred position, but if the gaffer needs me to play in defence as well then so be it.
"I like getting into the box and scoring goals - there's nothing better. Every season, I want to be better than the season before.
"I'm just excited, I can't wait to get started and get going."
When asked about targets for the forthcoming season he added: "We haven't really spoken about that. When we get all the lads back, we'll probably have the chat then."
Murphy - who scored a last minute equaliser for Stanley against Blues when the sides met in November - has signed a two year deal which includes an option for a third year, depending on appearances.
