GERRARDS Cross CC suffered a miserable time with the bat yesterday as their hopes of reviving their league form with a cup win came apart at the seams.

They were up against Banbury in the Home Counties League T20 Cup quarter-finals but were knocked over for just 75 runs in 14.5 overs.

Banbury batted first and were grateful to a match-winning innings of 42 from Daniel Harris for their score of 116-8 after 18 overs.

Matt Watson, Alexander Woodland and Izhan Khan all took two wickets with Billy Hunt also impressing with figures of 1-12 from four overs.

But it went south after that.

Cross openers Watson and Dan Hampton enjoyed just one scoring shot between them before both returned to the pavilion, and it didn’t get better down the order as Ben Lane (6), Sam Bracey (6), Hunt (7) and Sam Westaway (6) all failed to get going.

Richard Knudsen offered some fight with 22 from 20 balls before Woodland hit a quickfire 15, but it was too little too late.

A day earlier, Cross had been due to take on Home Counties Division One leaders Burnham but the game was abandoned after 26 overs with Cross well-placed on 83-2.

The only good news is that bottom side Harefield were also rained off against High Wycombe.
