A SCHOOLGIRL triumphed in a gruelling triathlon on Sunday despite only taking up the sport last year.

Rosie Street was not only the fastest junior female in yesterday’s Marlow Sprint Distance Triathlon, but also beat a tough field of adults to come in as the fastest female overall.

The 17-year-old, currently studying for her A-Levels at Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School in Marlow, only took up triathlon last year after a back injury forced to her quit rowing.

She said: “My physio said that I could swim run and cycle whilst recovering from injury, and then I just fell into triathlon naturally.

“I was delighted with my time. I really concentrated on catching the runners in front, and overtook 2 people on the final stretch in Pound Lane.”

Over 100 competitors, male and female, started at 7am from Higginson Park to compete over distances of swim 750m, cycle 24.5km and run 5km .

Rosie, who lives in Maidenhead, recently won the The Windsor Sprint Triathlon Junior Event, and will be competing again in two weeks at The Dorney Half Steel Man event on July 12.

She competes as a member of Evolution Triathlon Club in Windsor.
