WANDERERS' search for a left back is over after they snapped up Shrewsbury Town's player of the year Joe Jacobson.

The former Welsh U21 international captain has today signed for Blues on a two year deal, becoming manager Gareth Ainsworth's fifth pre season capture.

Jacobson was surprisingly released by the Shrews at the end of the season despite being voted their player of the year.

Ainsworth moved to sign him up after he became available, allowing him to fulfil his wish of playing Sam Wood further forward after the midfielder was forced to fill in at left back for much of last season.

The Blues boss said: "Joe is a great left back first and foremost and I know he’ll do a really strong job for us defensively. But he’s got a quality delivery on him and he can chip in with the odd goal as well.

"I first knew Joe at Cardiff a decade ago and could spot at that point that he was going to go on and make it as a player, and to win the Player of the Year at Shrewsbury last season shows how well he’s thought of in the game, so we’re lucky to have him."

Wanderers become the sixth club of the 27-year-old's career after spells with Cardiff City, Bristol Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Accrington Stanley.
