Gaz silent on Stewart future

Bucks Free Press: Anthony Stewart Anthony Stewart

GARETH Ainsworth has this week refused to comment on the still-to-be-resolved future of defender Anthony Stewart.

The 21-year-old centre half was offered a new contract by Wanderers at the end of last season, two months ago.

He is still to decide on his future however and is yet to agree a deal either with Blues or any other club.

When asked about Stewart's future this week, Blues boss Ainsworth said: "No comment at the moment. His contract ran out this season - we'll see what happens. We are waiting to see where we are and what will happen."

Wanderers are keen to hand on to the highly-rated defender, but earlier this summer club director David Roberton hinted at difficulties with negotiating with Stewart's agent while trying to thrash out a deal.

Stewart is technically an unattached player but Wanderers retain his registration.

Because of his age and due to the fact he was offered a new contract, Blues would be entitled to a transfer fee if he opted to sign for a different team.

Stewart, a former winner of the Wanderers young player of the season award, has made 65 appearances for the club since making his debut at Preston North End in January 2012.

With the player's future still to be resolved Ainsworth has looked to bring in reinforcements, fielding defenders Jamie Tank and Adam Nditi as trialists during the second half of Saturday's friendly win at Cheshunt.

Tank, 20, has had spells with Walsall and Wolves but did not make an appearance for either club, while Tanzania-born left back Nditi played 17 times for Chelsea's U21 team before being released in the summer.
