THE route the Tour of Britain will take through Bucks was unveiled at the Chiltern Cycling Festival this week, with the area due to host three King of the Mountain climbs and one Sprint.

The peloton arrives in Bucks near Stokenchurch on Friday, September 12, and winds its way through Princes Risborough across the Chilterns to Great Missenden, Hyde Heath, Chesham and Ashley Green before the stage finale in Hemel Hempstead.

The route will be punctuated by three King of the Mountain climbs – Chinnor Hill, Kop Hill at Princes Risborough, and Nashleigh Hill at Chesham.

Princes Risborough will also host one of the tour’s Sprint finishes.

The route was announced at Chiltern Cycling Festival at the Amersham Old Town festival on Sunday.

Olympic cycling medalist Bryan Steel said: “This is a great celebration of competitive cycling.

“What a brilliant challenge Buckinghamshire will present the 120 riders, and let's hope it inspires cyclists across the county to try the route themselves.”

Thousands are expected to line the route on the day, with the race controlled by a rolling road block.
