MARLOW Wolves are closing in on a BritBowl hat-trick after two of their sides qualified for the finals of the British American Football League as top seeds and a third could follow suit in a few weeks.

Their cadets and kitted teams have already been collected Southern Division titles and will go to Doncaster in September as the number one ranked side in the country.

And the contact squad are poised to follow them with one tournament left.

They beat Sussex Thunder 18-2 and Farnham Knights 34-6 in their most recent round of fixtures and if they win two of their final three games in Farnham on August 3 they will complete a superb treble for the club.

However, they have some catching up to do if they hope to match the achievements of their younger clubmates.

The cadets ended their season with ten wins out of ten after 14-6 and 27-13 wins over London Blitz to go with a 36-6 triumph against London Warriors.

They have now lost just five games in five years and will go to Doncaster chasing a quite staggering fifth BritBowl title in a row.

Meanwhile, the kitted side won five of their final six games top the rankings.

Their division came down a title-decider with Horsham but Wolves bounced back from a 19-7 defeat to them in their previous clash to win 25-6.

They also beat London Blitz 44-12 and 45-26 after knocking London Warriors out of the competition 47-7 in front of their own fans in Wimbledon.

They will have do something similar though to progress to the final after being drawn to play hosts Doncaster in the semi-finals.

Head coach Sam McKee said: “It’s not what you want and they’re a bit of an unknown quantity, but I fancy our chances against anyone.”

Meanwhile, 16-year-old RGS High Wycombe pupil Dennis Burgess has become the first Wolf to earn an international call-up.

He came through U19 GB trials last weekend and will make his debut for the national team in the autumn.
