RICHARD Dobson was pleased with the way Wanderers attacked Wealdstone after saying the offensive side of their game had been missing during pre season.

Blues had failed to score in three of their first five friendlies but two goals in the second half against their non league opponents on Tuesday night ensured they got back to winning ways.

If there was a disappointment about Wanderers' second half performance it was the fact they didn't take even more of the numerous opportunities they carved out.

The showing after the break, with Matt McClure and Sam Wood scoring the goals, also marked a reversal in fortune as an experimental first half team were outplayed by the Isthmian League champions.

Assistant manager Dobson said: "We showed a lot more high intensity runs in terms of our pressing game tonight. I was pleased with the second half. We started to open them up and create chances.

"I thought we could have had four or five if we'd been a bit more clinical. It's the fact we're creating them that's important. On another day Matt McClure might have come on and hit a hat trick.

"That's probably the most pleasing thing from my point of view. We haven't created a great deal of chances so far in pre season, albeit against a Championship and a Premier League side.

"One of the things I felt we lacked last year was a bit of clever play around the box. We weren't quite incisive enough when we got into the final third. I'm starting to see signs of what we are doing in training."

Dobson added Wanderers focused on their defensive system first to lay the foundations for their attacking game, which has been later to bloom.

He said: "Finishing is something we needed to highlight. I think the likes of Matt McClure will score goals if he gets those opportunities. We possibly didn't create enough over the course of last season.

"If we can play higher in the opposition half and if we show more composure, as we did second half tonight, I think we'll get the goals we need."
