CHESHAM fell six runs short of pulling off a much-needed victory in their rain-affected match against Finchampstead.

Bad weather meant the game was reduced to 87 overs, with Chesham having fewer balls with which to knock off the winning runs.

Finchampstead batted first and Matthew Jones hit 92 as they closed on an imposing 239-7. Matthew Yeabsley and Jack Maciver both took three wickets, with Maciver the pick of the Chesham attack with figures of 3-55.

Openers Matthew Rance and James Day led the Chesham fightback with a stand of 113 for the first wicket, but they just failed to overhaul their opponents and closed on 234-7 to ensure the game finished in a draw.

Elsewhere Amersham's match against Shipton under Wychwood at Shardeloes had to be abandoned with the hosts on 94-3.
