WANDERERS boss Gareth Ainsworth said there’s been a change in atmosphere around Adams Park as he embarks on the start of a long rebuilding project.

The club only just avoided relegation into non-league football by the skin of their teeth last season and Ainsworth felt it was time for a complete overhaul of the squad.

Eleven players left during the summer and the same number of new faces came in, while off the pitch a new chairman in the shape of Beechdean supremo Andrew Howard was installed.

Having seen last year’s struggles Howard could quite easily have wielded the axe but he’s stuck by his man and it’s paid dividends so far, with a much improved squad and two wins out of two in the league.

And Ainsworth feels he’s quietly building a revolution after deciding to change the club ethos by ripping things up and starting again.

He said: “To be able to rebuild is important. After last year, finishing 90th in the league and being stuck by by the board and the new chairman Andrew Howard, who’s given me all this backing to rebuild – this is a big process. These are initial blocks of this rebuild process.

“There’s a long way to go. I’m working hard behind the scenes and I know Andrew is as well, and if the fans can jump on board with this process, then brilliant. They were there today, they were on board today, and we gave them something to shout about.

“You couldn’t take many positives from last year at all. We just scraped staying up, but the spirit in the last week and last day was fantastic to have and we build from that. We learnt from last year, from everything that went wrong and we put it right.

“I’ve changed myself as a person, as a manager, and I think the characters I have brought into the club have changed some of the atmosphere around the club which, coupled with a few more changes, is great for the club.”
