JOE Jacobson is relishing the challenge of keeping Wanderers at the top of the table after admitting Blues are now there to be shot at.

With a quarter of the season now gone Wycombe have defied everyone's pre season predictions of struggle to top the League Two table.

They have the division's best goal difference, the lowest number of defeats and boast one of the meanest defences in the whole of the Football League.

Jacobson believes opponents will now fear facing Blues - but has warned his team mates they can expect a tougher test in breaking people down if they want to remain where they are in the table.

The full back said: "We are top of the league and we're there to be shot down because every team wants to beat us. Teams are going to come up against us and think, 'We are playing the top of the league team' - we're a big scalp for them so it's up to us to work hard and keep our standards high.

"Anyone can produce a run and do well at certain times. Maybe teams will change the way they play against us because of where we are.

"Last season they'd have thought of Wycombe Wanderers as an easy game. This season they'll probably look at us and think a draw's a good result against us.

"Teams might set up a little bit differently and it's going to be up to us to counteract that. We've come to Morecambe today, who are flying high in the league themselves, and we've shown what a good team we are.

"Our all-round game is pretty good at the moment. It would be great if that can put fear into other teams."

Reflecting on the start to the season, the former Wales youth international said: "It's a massive achievement. If you spoke to anyone in pre season and said after 12 games we'd be top of the table, nobody would've believed you.

"We're quietly confident at the way we go about things. We've got everyone pushing in the right direction and the way we want to play the game.

"We want to stay where we are and try and win as many games as possible.

"Who knows where it'll take us in May, but if we concentrate on the next game, try and get three points, it's all we can do."
