BEACONSFIELD SYCOB are acting swiftly to avoid being cut off at the bottom of the Southern League Central division.

A 4-2 home defeat to second-placed Potters Bar Town continued their pointless run at Holloways Park and left them two points behind the side directly above them and five points from safety.

Manager Andy Hurley said: “We’re so aware of the gap widening and that’s why we’re acting now. We’ve got some more players coming in this week, one defender and one midfielder.

“They’ve both got a lot of experience at this level and I think that’s what we’re missing.

“The young lads have been performing well, but it’s taking its toll on them.”

Tom Willment and Lee Thompson both scored against Town, but the hosts hit them with two goals in each half to pin SYCOB to the bottom.

Hurley said: “We didn’t play well. They’re a good team going forward and have two very good strikers, but we let in some soft goals.

“We’ve got Faversham at home in The FA Trophy [on Saturday] and we need to win that one. Hopefully that would get our season started. It certainly needs to.”
