WASPS let a 20-11 interval lead slip away as they went down 25-20 at Leinster in their opening European Rugby Champions Cup match in Dublin this afternoon.

A sensational try from Christian Wade just after half an hour appeared to have given the black and golds the perfect winning platform at 20-8 in front.

But they weren't able to add any more points in the remaining 45 minutes while the Irish, with the wind behind them after the break, chipped away before finally going in front after an hour.

Ian Madigan gave Leinster a 3-0 lead early on but Andy Goode penalties after 12 and 21 minutes made it 6-3 to Wasps before Alapati Leiua ran the length of the field to score his first try for his new club from an interception.

Goode added the extras to make it 13-3.

Darragh Fanning replied for Leinster, but Wasps took control again when Wade received Elliot Daly's pass and fizzed outside Madigan to go over in the corner for a fantastic individual try.

Goode converted and at that stage Wasps were well set.

But Madigan's penalty just before the interval cut the lead to nine points, and the second half was one-way traffic as Leinster surged back.

Farragh's second try made it 20-18, and with 20 minutes left Dominic Ryan reached over the line to win it for Leinster.

Wasps host Harlequins at Adams Park in their second Champions Cup match next Sunday.
