NEARLY 800 children competed in the first Chesham and District Inter Schools Cross-Country meet of the season at RAF Halton on Saturday.

In the year three boys race George Beddot of Gayhurst beat schoolmate Finlay Connolly to the line, helping Gayhurst to team gold ahead of Chesham Prep second, and Great Missenden.

Alfie Clifford of Chartridge finished third.

Frankie Baxter of St Mary’s won the year three girls race ahead of Lesedi Nkoane (Chartridge) and Lucy Baker (Godstowe), while Godstowe, Gerrards Cross and Great Missenden won the team awards.

Gayhurst also dominated the year four boys event, winning team gold ahead of The Beacon and Gateway after pupils Sam Matthews and Oliver Layfield finished first and third respectively.

Chalfont St Giles’ Monty Saunders was second.

For the girls, Hannah Ashby (Heatherton), Rosa Williams (Gerrards Cross) and Serena Pallenburg (Godstowe) took the top three individual places with Gateway, Gerrards Cross and Godstowe claiming the team medals.

Gateway also won the year five boys events, taking team gold ahead of Chalfont St Peter and The Beacon, while Cormac Nisbet added an individual win after edging Bailey Cameron (The Beacon) in a sprint finish.

Matt Aldred of Chalfont St Peter was third.

Gerrards Cross took three of the top four places in the year five girls race,Chesham Prep pupil Olivia Edwards breaking up the monopoly by finishing second.

Abbie Henderson was first home to secure team gold for Cross, ahead of Chesham Prep second and Godstowe.

Meanwhile, for the year six boys, Gayhurst runers Aaron Philips and Sam Dean were first and third to help their team to overall gold.

Zach Rahaman of Gateway was second, while The Beacon and Elangeni picked up the minor team medals.

For the girls, Orla Williams of Gerrards Cross beat Helena van Hillen (Chesham Prep) and Megan Harris (Godstowe) to the line, while Godstowe, Chesham Prep and Gerrards Cross were the team winners.

The next meeting is at Chartridge Combined School on November 22.
