FIVE Wycombe & District Swimming Club stars have been identified as potential England stars of the future.

James Eddy (14), Sophie Millen (14) and Millie Sansome (12) have all been selected onto the National England Talent Programme, which aims to prepare the country’s top talent for international competition.

Further, Cameron Brooker and Tom Sansome, who are 11 and ten years old respectively, have been named in England’s Regional Talent Programme.

This recognition follows last year’s selection of club captain Luke Thomas, who was the first swimmer from the club to make it onto the programme, and is further evidence that WDSC is establishing itself as a hotbed for emerging talent.

In addition, head coach Kevin Brooks has been asked to assist with the coaching. It will be his seventh successive year on the coaching team, while WDSC assistant coach Craig Oliver has also been named among the coaches.

Among the national swimmers, Eddy earned his place after winning 100m and 200m backstroke gold and silver medals at the national finals.

Millen, who has only been swimming for two years but is already part of Wycombe’s senior squad, was second in the national open water championships and sixth in the 800m freestyle.

The 14-year-old, who trains up to ten times a week at WDSC, said: “This is a big step-up for me as before this year I had never even been to the nationals.”

For the national swimmers, phase one and phase two take place in November and January, after which 40 hopefuls will be invited to attend a week-long training camp later in the year.

Meanwhile, Brooker and Tom Sansome will take part in the regional sessions at Stoke Mandeville on November 16.

Brooker was named Top Boy at the Berks & South Bucks County Championships.
