GARETH Ainsworth has warned his men to play the match and not the occasion in tomorrow's M40 derby trip to Oxford United.

Memories of the U's 96th minute equaliser in last season's fixture will no doubt be in the travelling fans' minds as they make the short trip to the Kassam Stadium.

But Ainsworth will be telling his players to forget thoughts of revenge and focus instead of getting back to winning ways, having picked up a solitary point from their last two games.

The Blues boss said: "If you start thinking that and bringing emotion into it, we end up playing into their hands - so it's cool and calm and thoughtful heads going to Oxford as another game.

"It's been good, the last couple of years away at Oxford. It's a nice pitch, it's a great atmosphere in the M40 derby and I know there's many Wycombe fans making the trip over there, so that's great.

"We aim to get back to winning ways on Saturday and there's no reason why we can't do that."

He added: "There's a great buzz for these games. It's something you relish as a footballer - 99 per cent of footballers love playing in derby matches.

"It'll be a big test for us. It's no secret they're a big club with their history and where they have been, but of late they seem to have stuttered a bit and we want to take full advantage of that if we can.

"I remember last season against York at home, and they were bottom of the league. I said at that point that was a good point, and York ended up in the play offs. There's plenty of twists and turns and there will be a team sitting at the bottom of the league who will make the play offs. We have to make sure they don't get the points against us to do it.

"The league is nowhere near taken anything like its final shape at the moment, and everyone has got to be mindful of that, including ourselves."

Goalkeeper Matt Ingram said: "This is one of the first years we've been above them in the league. It's a local derby and all the players know what it's about. We've done quite well there and hopefully that can continue."

Ingram's former PE teacher at John Hampden Grammar School, Greg Boult, is an Oxford fan and the keeper joked: "I'm looking forward to beating him."

Wanderers sold out their initial allocation of 1,200 tickets for tomorrow's game earlier this week.

An additional 500 seats will be available for travelling ticketless fans on the day, with United being able to extend that further if required.
