A STOKENCHURCH Judo Club player won double gold on her return to the mat after a 25-year absence.

Michala Harrison was competing in the High Wycombe Kyu Cup and overcame her nerves with three wins in quick succession to take gold in the U70kg novice green belt section.

She then stepped up to the blue and brown belt section and another hat-trick of victories secured her second gold medal of the day.

She wasn’t the only Stokenchurch winner on the day though.

Daniel Cuadrado, competing in the U81kg blue and brown belt section, came through the first round pools in second place.

But his semi-final was just 51 seconds old when he threw his opponent for an ippon, before he took gold with a victory against the opponent that had beaten him earlier in the day.

Another defeat looked on the cards, but Cuadrado turned the contest around in the final minute with a superb throw.

Meanwhile, Mickelfield Judo Club picked up six medals at the Harlow Judo Championships.

Samir Sydykov won gold while silvers came from Chloe Dodge, Kim Day and Devon Chapman.

Also among the medals, Tyrese Yearwood and Joe Chraniuk picked up bronzes.
