Flackwell Heath manager Graham Malcolm is targeting more cup success to boost the club’s coffers when they take on Peterborough North Star in the third round of the FA Vase on Saturday.

The Heathens have carried their tremendous league form into the cups this season where an 8-0 trouncing of East Preston in the last round set-up Saturday’s showdown.

Flackwell’s progress in such a prestigious competition is paying dividends both on and off the pitch, with Malcolm keen to stress how important his side’s run has been to the club.

“We’re playing for £1,500, so the game in itself is worth quite a bit of money. We’re having a very successful season and that would keep going if we were to reach the last 32.

“That would be a major achievement for a club of our level. It’s a big cup and the further you go the more money you can get to help your club.

“It’s massive for the club. In the Vase we’ve won about £3,500 and in the FA Cup we’ve won about £6,500. To get that sort of money just doesn’t happen. It’s the first time it’s happened to this club in over ten years.”

Flackwell travel to Peterborough in fine form having won their last nine matches in all competitions. Another win on the weekend would be the icing on the cake for Malcolm, who believes his players have already surpassed his expectations by reaching this stage.

“Flackwell Heath has never gone further than the last 16 in this tournament. It’s a big tournament and this is game five for us and there is still 64 teams left in.

“That gives you some idea of how tough it is to win. To reach the last 32 would be a big thing for us.”
